Choosing a pet bereavement gift, for yourself or for someone else
The most meaningful pet memorial gifts are about the pet who was lost, not about loss itself. Whether you are remembering your own best friend or looking for a small gift for someone who has lost a pet, the same rule holds: make it about them, their face, their name, their funny ears.
What is a good small gift for someone who has lost a pet?
Small is often exactly right, especially from a neighbour, a colleague or a friend who does not want to overstep. Our embroidered portrait patch (£25) can be kept in a pocket or ironed onto anything they choose, and a gift card lets them pick their own keepsake when they feel ready, on their own timeline. A handwritten card that uses their pet's name costs nothing and is remembered for years. Grieving owners consistently tell us that hearing their pet's name used, rather than avoided, is the kindest thing of all. And if you are sending a gift directly to them, add a gift note at checkout and no receipt goes in the box.
What about a pet loss gift basket?
A lovely instinct, and you do not need to buy a pre-made one. The best pet bereavement baskets are assembled, not bought: something comforting (their favourite tea, a candle), something about the pet (a small portrait keepsake or a printed photo), and a handwritten card. If you only include one thing, make it the card.
Four gentle steps. You choose a keepsake and send us a photo of them, any photo. We design their portrait from it and send you a proof, usually within about 3 working days. You approve it, with unlimited edits and no time limit, and nothing is stitched until you say it's them. Then it's embroidered in our Cambridge studio and shipped, with an overall lead time of 2 to 3 weeks shown at checkout.
I only have old or blurry photos of them. Is that okay?+
Yes, truly. When a pet has passed, you work with the photos you have. Because every portrait is individually designed from your photo rather than printed, our artists can often capture them beautifully from a photo you might not think would work. Send us what you have, and we'll be honest about what we can do with it.
Will it really look like them?+
This matters more with a memorial portrait than anything else we make, and we treat it that way. You'll receive a proof designed from your photo within about 3 working days and can request as many edits as you like, the tilt of an ear, the colour of their muzzle, the look in their eyes. About 70 per cent of designs are approved with no edits at all, and nothing is stitched until you tell us it's right.
Is there a time limit on approving my proof?+
No. Some people approve the same day; others need to sit with it for a while, and that's completely understandable. Your proof will be waiting whenever you're ready, and we'll never chase or rush you.
Is it too soon, or too late, to order a memorial gift?+
Neither exists. Some people order within days because they need something to hold onto; others order years later, from the photo that has been their phone background all along. Whenever you are ready is the right time.
How long does a memorial keepsake take to arrive?+
Your proof usually arrives within about 3 working days, approval takes as long as you need, and overall lead time is 2 to 3 weeks depending on capacity, shown at checkout. If you're ordering for a specific date, an anniversary or a scattering, order with that window in mind.
Can I include more than one pet?+
Yes. You can have a pet who's passed alongside one who's still with you, or remember more than one together. Many people find it comforting to have them side by side.
What can I have their portrait on?+
The same portrait, designed once from your photo, can be embroidered onto our organic cotton sweatshirt, the velvet or canvas cushion for their spot at home, or a small keepsake like our embroidered patch. Whichever feels right for you.
What is a good small gift for someone who has lost a pet?+
An embroidered portrait patch (£25), a gift card they can use when they feel ready, or a handwritten card that uses their pet's name. Small gifts are often the right call from a neighbour or colleague, where a large gift could feel like too much.
What should you get a neighbor whose dog died?+
